Tortoise and the Hare

First of all, I need to shout out my website designer Brian Frolo. I got up early to run to my street and I passed him riding his bike in the opposite direction on West Clifton. I could not have reached the starting line of this project without his help.

Speaking of starting lines, once I do get to a starting line I am definitely more of a Tortoise than a Hare. I found myself reflecting on that as I snapped a picture of a large tortoise statue on Rio. I definitely believe slow and steady wins the race. Part of the reason this project has been so much fun for me is that it is more about the adventure than how fast I walk, ride or run.

Rio is a short dead-end side street on the western end of Lakewood. It is one of three dead-end side streets that shoot off Detroit Road Extension towards the Metroparks. I jogged by one of the other ones (Gridley) on my way there and it seemed like I walked that street just a few weeks ago. I was shocked when I checked my photo library and realized it was on April 28th, almost three months ago.

I finished up my walk down Rio by peeking over the fence at the end of the street. The Rocky River was flowing below, with the wastewater treatment plant off in the distance. I had a strange fear of dropping my camera over the cliff, so I quickly backed off and headed home.
