Winchester

Fantasy Land

I have passed a lot of Little Free Libraries walking the streets of Lakewood. My original intent was to count them all, but I lost track around 50 after walking down several streets that had multiple Little Free Libraries in their front yards. Well today I think I found my favorite one of all.

In addition to being a hand painted work of art, it was the subject matter that won me over. Both sides of the library box were lined with directional arrows pointing towards fantasy lands. Some of my favorites included Panem, Hogwarts, The Lonely Mountain and Tatooine. There was even a shoutout to Bikini Bottom complete with a tiny painted “pineapple under the sea”. The front of the box indicated it was Krista’s Little Free Library – kudos to Krista if you are the artist.

Winchester is a street on the eastern side of Lakewood that runs from Detroit to Madison. At the halfway point where it crosses Franklin, I spotted a corner beverage store. This is a bit unusual, as there are not a lot of commercial buildings on Franklin. The sign indicated it had been in business for over 40 years. That is certainly something to toast – I’ll raise a glass to Sam’s Beverage as I enjoy an ice cold Great Lakes Oktoberfest during the Browns game today!
