Miles Away from Ordinary
It might have been the warm, breezy air or the bright sun shining, but Esther today felt like I stepped into a Corona Beer commercial. When I got home after a long, hard day at work I was excited to “take a break” and head off on my tandem bike. It is remarkable that after two months of traveling Lakewood’s streets this no longer feels like a chore, but instead feels like vacation.
Esther is a one-block east-west street located off Alger near the highway. Surprisingly I have already walked 10 other streets within a block or two (Alger, Arden, Armin, Arthur, Athens, Bayes, Belle, Delaware, Elmwood and Emily). Tonight was trash night for Esther, and I was super excited when I came across a Corona Neon Beer Sign on a tree lawn. Unfortunately, the neon was broken, but it still helped set the mood for my walk.
Many of the yards had flowers in full bloom, and I saw my first large patch of red tulips by one of the front porches. Then I saw the perfect Corona sipping spot. A solitary wooden rocking chair was positioned in the bright evening sun just beckoning someone to relax and enjoy an adult beverage. Perhaps this chair was left outside from the eclipse viewing yesterday, but for today it felt like I “found my beach”.
