Bottomed Out
The first day I jogged to my destination street, but I have ridden my bike the last three days. I have two observations:
- It is hard to ride a bike from Lake to Madison in Lakewood, especially on a 50-year-old tandem bike with only one gear. It is a long, slow, steady uphill climb. Check out the elevation change on the Strava map below.
- It is even harder (pun intended) to sit on my bike seat for 30-60 minutes. I think this might be the most difficult part of the challenge so far. I feel like I’m riding on a piece of Lake Erie driftwood. I am sure I will build up some backside tolerance over the months, but I hope it comes sooner rather than later. If you have any advice message or email me.
When I arrived at Alger I noticed the street ran from Warren south towards I-90 and then over the highway. However, there were no “Welcome to Lakewood/Cleveland” signs in either direction. The bridge felt like some strange, demilitarized zone and I wasn’t sure where the border was. I went halfway across the bridge and took this pic. Street #4 in the books!
