Life’s A Beach
Today was a perfect day for a trip to the beach. However, when I looked up “Beach” on Google Maps I realized there were two Beach streets located in opposite corners of Lakewood. I decided to split it up into two routes.
My first Beach destination was in the northeast corner of Lakewood between Clifton and Detroit. Several yards had beach themed decorations in their front yards, like the lighthouse pictured here.
As I was nearing the end of my walk I ran into Kelly McMann, a 10-year resident of the street. We chatted for a while, and she agreed to take a quick pic. Then I noticed she was looking at my old Schwinn tandem bike with trepidation. She went on to tell a story of riding on the back of a similar bike with her father when she was nine years old and getting her Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle shoes caught in the spokes of the rear tire. I was glad she overcame her traumatization to come say hi to me today. Making new friends and hearing new stories was one of the main reasons I decided to complete this “Lakewood A to Z” adventure.
