Cedarwood

Sibling Day

When I woke up this morning I noticed two deer in my backyard. They looked about the same age and I guessed they were siblings. Then one deer proceeded to groom his sister by cleaning out her ear. A kind gesture for sure, but a line that us humans would not cross. I wonder if siblings in the animal kingdom ever fight or get angry at each other like we do.

I’m lucky that I get along extremely well with both of my siblings. In fact, my sister was in town for the weekend and she decided to join me on my tandem bike ride today. The best part of the journey was the 20-minute bike ride back and forth to Cedarwood. We got to catch up on what our kids were up to, talk about our jobs, and reminisce about old stories. I want to thank Mel for taking the time to be with me this morning.

Cedarwood is a short 2 block connector street just south of Lakewood High School. As we were exploring we noticed two “sibling” apartment buildings at the end of the street. They looked the same and were called “The Roosevelt” and “The Cedarwood”. A resident of one of the buildings was walking down the street and we recruited her to take our sibling picture (thanks Nicole).

My wish for today is for anyone reading this post to reach out to one of their siblings, preferably the one you have not talked to in a while. Sometimes it just takes a first effort to reconnect with someone. Just don’t offer to groom them – that would be weird.
