Clarence

Rolling Out the Red Carpet

Clarence was quite a long walk. I almost missed the starting point as there is a small section of Clarence north of Detroit, but my son Joe saved the day by making me check Google Maps before leaving the house. Joe was home for his college spring break this week, and he joined me on the tandem bike for this trip.

Soon after starting out, Joe noticed the Lakewood “Branch” of a Stick Library. I know the library is for dogs, but I was tempted to take a stick for myself as a souvenir. Our community continues to be creative with the Little Free Libraries (and variations of them).

The best part of Clarence though was still to come. After carefully crossing Madison by Mahall’s we came upon the Bixenstine family playing in their front yard. Upon closer examination I noticed they had decorated the sidewalk for me (complete with a rainbow, encouraging words, a Lakewood Alive logo and hopscotch grid that my Son bounded through).

They also made a really cool sign and presented me with a “Lakewood A to Z” trophy. Thank you to Mom (Alyse) for capturing the moment. Matt Bixenstine is pictured along with his kids Charlie and Lucie. The family offered to try to meet me on Wyandotte when I check the last street off my list.

As Joe and I finished off the walk we both had huge smiles across our faces. He turned to me and said he “had a blast”. Thanks Joe, I had a blast too!
