Don’t Spring Forward
As I was jogging to my street this morning, I started thinking about the timing of Spring. Yesterday we did the “Spring Forward” for Daylight Savings Time, and my daughter is on Spring Break this week. Both these events happened, and Spring does not even start until Tuesday, March 19th (it is a day early because of the Leap Year).
I feel like our society is always rushing on to the next thing without slowing down to appreciate where we are right now. The biggest rush forward for me is Christmas decorations going up in stores the day after Halloween. It’s fun to look forward to things, but I don’t want to wish away any season – even winter.
So when I got to Clifton Park Lane today, I really slowed down. It is a tiny side street off Lake near the bridge to Rocky River. There are only 4 houses on the street and it has no official street sign. My first two pictures were of garbage cans, and I was struggling to find something to post. Then I noticed the sun coming up over one of the houses and snapped my featured picture.
My second discovery was a burrow for a furry friend. I imagined a possum or a racoon out for an early morning breakfast. I left before its resident returned, but it was still a glimpse into nature that made me happy.
Spending 10 minutes on this tiny side street on a late Winter morning was just what I needed to start off my week. Slow and steady wins the race!
