Clifton Place

Change of Pace

When I woke up this morning I decided I needed to change things up today. I was on day #3 of my five Clifton Streets and I was “feeling dangerous”. When I get in this mood I try to do something out of the ordinary to get my brain cells moving. So, I got wild and crazy and brushed my teeth with my non-dominant hand!

I know it sounds like a little thing, but I am convinced it gets my creativity flowing. It feels awkward and strange, but it is also rewarding. Don’t knock it ’til you try it. Other things I do every so often include leaving my house out of our seldom used side door or getting in my car on the passenger side and crawling through the front seat to the driver’s side to pull away.

Then when I arrived at Clifton Place, I was inspired to walk the length of the street backwards. I’m not sure if it was the toothbrushing that inspired me, but it made the walk more interesting. Clifton Place is a short dead-end side-street heading south off Detroit right next to St. Peter’s Episcopal Church. I thought it would be easy to complete the backwards walk, but the street was MUCH longer than I thought it would be (18 houses to be exact).

As I was backpedaling, I passed several classrooms in the basement level of the church. Kids were inside working on projects and I snapped a quick pic of these awesome stained-glass windows on display. I’m not sure what the kids or teachers thought as I walked past backwards, but I hope they were entertained. If I made a pre-school kid laugh today then my silliness was worth it.

My final bit of creativity was to post my featured pic upside down. I realized I had to edit it after taking the pic, because my phone camera kept autocorrecting the image no matter what direction I turned it.
