Eclectic Avenue
Ava Olic from Lakewood Alive met me at the corner of Cordova and Detroit and walked the length of the street with me this morning (she lives on the corner of Madison and Cordova). It seemed fitting that the last day of Winter would bring with it a 29-degree day with snow flurries, but both of us persevered. We were rewarded with the opportunity to view an incredible collection of unique decorations dotting the front yards of Cordova. We took our selfie next to a “Cat Windowsill” mural near the end of the street by Madison, but there were many other sights. They included:
- Two Little Free Libraries (double the fun)
- A dog treat stand along with a hand painted pick up the poop sign
- A front porch filled with skeletons adorned with St. Patrick’s Day bowties and Easter Bunny ears
- A ceramic narwhal wearing a winter scarf
- A cool locomotive planter that I climbed inside for my second pic
- Several other plant / rock / sculpture gardens
All of this added to the ambiance of the street.
I also enjoyed my time chatting with Ava along the walk. Ava had graduated from Lakewood High School with my daughter Rachel and asked me to say “hi” to her (response from Rachel – “Man I haven’t heard from her in ages, hi Ava!”). Ava is the Communications and Design Coordinator for Lakewood Alive, and I was trying to pick up some tips for my picture taking and blogging for this website. I do appreciate Ava getting up early to meet me and hope she had as much fun as I did.
