Most Haunted Street in Lakewood?
I started my walk down Cove near the Gold Coast at the corner of Edgewater Drive. It might have been the early morning twilight, but the apartment on the corner had an eerie glow to it. I then remembered that I had the privilege of leading a “Lakewood Ghost Tour” in this area several year ago. It was sponsored by the Lakewood Historical Society, and I was given a script to read to a group of about 20 people. It was during a windy, rainy October evening, and I think 3 of the 6 scary buildings were located on Cove.
This corner building in particular had one of the spookiest tales, though I could not recall the details this morning. However, I still felt a chill returning to my spine as I snapped this picture.
The mood brightened as I headed south down Cove towards Clifton. The City of Lakewood did an amazing job repurposing the former Cove Church into the Cove Community Center. I was in this building for a fundraiser for H2O – Help to Others last year and the space is amazing. Even though it was early on a Wednesday morning the parking lot was already abuzz with activity.
As I finished my walk on the Clifton to Detroit block, I was struck by the diversity of housing on this street. In addition to several unique homes, there were apartments ranging in style from Mid-Century Modern to Victorian. Whatever your taste you can find a home on Cove.
