The Beat Goes On
I do feel like I am making some progress. In addition to being 22% of the way through my challenge, I passed 200 total miles traveled today. I am also at 19% of my fundraising goal. I’m right on pace of where I wanted to be.
However, on a cold winter morning I needed some extra motivation to move me forward. Daleview provided that encouragement.
Most of the sidewalks I jogged down this morning did not have a single footprint on them, but when I turned onto Daleview the sidewalk was filled with multiple human and dog footprints. I also passed a solo walker and a dog walker on my short trip down the street. These early birds inspired me to press on.
At the end of the street at the corner of McKinley I also saw an interesting sign by a garden. For some reason that phrase “Lettuce Turnip the Beet” stuck in my head. My son Joe played drums in the LHS Marching Band, and I pictured him pounding his tenors as I marched along to “Lettuce Turnip the Beat”. I started pounding my shoes into the sidewalk and kept the “Lettuce Turnip the Beat” rhythm going most of the way home. Now if I can only get that chant out of my head.
One final interesting architectural note. I would estimate that 70% of the homes on Daleview were brick or stone, a bit unusual for Lakewood. It made me wonder when this street was developed. It did add to the charm of the neighborhood.
