Deja Vu
This is my 25th year living in Lakewood, and up until a week ago I had never been on Coutant. Now I’ve been down the street twice in the last few days.
The only way you can get to Davis is by way of Coutant. It is a small side street heading west with about 10 houses on it. I immediately noticed there were two “No Outlet” signs discouraging any attempts at through traffic. This was a foreboding beginning.
Then I was checking out some prickly pear in the landscaping of the first house (kudos for the cacti) when I spotted a blood-stained gnome. Despite his cherry smile he was telling me to “Go Away”. I was not about to be deterred by this evil talisman.
In the name of “Lakewood A to Z” I pushed on to the end of the street. My efforts were rewarded with a welcome surprise. A gray tiger cat emerged from the last driveway and came up looking for some love. It was purring and trying to nudge into me. I showed it some attention, hoping it wouldn’t try to follow me home. It laid down in a sunny patch, happy that someone had persevered to the end of Davis.
