Detroit

From Sea to Shining Sea

Walking across all of Lakewood on Detroit Avenue today felt like crossing the United States of America. I’ve heard many people say you should drive across our country at least once – well I would challenge all residents of Lakewood to walk across our city on Detroit Avenue at least once.

Despite the rain and wind, it really was an enjoyable experience. What made it even better was my travelling buddy – my wife Amy. I took a picture of us in front of the Lakewood Alive office, and it appears I need to go back to selfie school. To quote Milli Vanilli – I’ll “Blame It on the Rain”.

We passed so many restaurants and stores we have been to, and discovered new ones we want to try. We were even serenated with music at 6:00 p.m. from the St. James bell tower. We tried to stop in Breadsmith to buy a cookie to spoil our dinner, and fortunately they had just closed. If we didn’t have dinner plans at home with our kids, I think we would have stopped for a drink or two along the way as well.

When we got to the Rocky River border, we noticed several historical plaques and informational signs. I took a picture of one plaque that claimed the original bridge was “listed as one of the most beautiful concrete bridges in America and aided the development of the lands west of the Rocky River”. I would encourange anyone to take a minute to read these signs next time you are heading to the Metro Parks.
