Just Keep Walking – Just Keep Walking
Elbur snuck up on me today. The street was way longer than I expected. It started off innocently enough, beginning at Clifton and ending at the railroad tracks. However, it continued on the other side of the tracks after taking a three-street circular detour (Merl to Giel to Detroit).
There was a cute well-maintained apartment complex just south of the railroad tracks and north of Detroit where it picked back up. They had the happiest pick-up your poop signs I have seen yet, with a wide grinning cartoon dog reminding you that “Pet Waste Transmits Disease”.
After crossing Detroit I came upon Elbur Lane, a short side street off to the east. There was a cautionary sign warning “Trucks Insufficient Turn-Around Ahead”. I had to see this. When I arrived at the roundabout the island was perfectly circular and had a healthy, stately pine tree right in the center. Given the location of this tree, it might be on the short list for the most interesting tree in Lakewood.
Then the street just kept going. I felt like Dory in the movie Nemo and I started repeating “Just Keep Walking – Just Keep Walking” to myself. To my surprise it ran all the way to Lakewood Heights Boulevard and the Cleveland border. I snapped a pic at that intersection with La Plaza Supermarket in the background (our family has been known to devour a quart of their guacamole in one sitting). I have a new appreciation for Elbur now as one of the longest streets in Lakewood.
