I Needed a Shot
Today would have been tops on the list of days I would not have taken a bike ride if I wasn’t doing this A to Z Challenge. The rain was pelting sideways, the wind was blowing in gusts, and the streets and sidewalks were filled with extra-large puddles. I was never so thankful for my 1970s bike with the large silver dented fender on the front wheel. Most modern bikes do not have fenders, but mine protected me like a medieval shield time and time again.
When I finally made it to Ferndale the rain actually slowed down just as I was heading into Western Reserve Distillery. It’s located right on the corner of Madison and Ferndale, and the parked lot was packed at 4:30 p.m. on a Friday afternoon. I have been here before for a mixology and cocktail tasting event sponsored by the Lakewood Chamber of Commerce, and it was fun to go back inside. I snapped a pic of their distilling room, and the bartender mentioned that they have tours on Saturday evenings. I usually carry a few bucks in my bike shorts pocket for emergencies, and today I was wishing I had that wad of cash to buy myself a shot of whiskey to warm my core back up.
I reluctantly headed back outside and finished my walk down Ferndale. The rest of the street was felt funky and cool. The houses were only on the east side of the street, and many of them had interesting yard decorations. Then I came upon the largest gnome village I have seen yet. This was a bustling metropolis. Then I remembered I have a few gnomes at my house. I think I’m going to grab one and keep it in my pocket to add to this city next time I am in the area.
