Gone Fishin’
I have passed Graber plenty of times in my life, but I had no idea where it was until I looked it up. My mind must have looked right past the giant green street sign and arrow every time I veered right on Detroit at “Around the Corner”. Graber is a bending one-way side street heading south from that intersection. Starting my walk at that corner, I passed several delightful smaller homes before running into a guardrail and fence overlooking a steep cliff and the Rocky River below.
As I carefully peered over the fence, I noticed the outline of a tiny fisherman next to the river. He had found a fishing spot on the sandy shore behind the Lakewood Wastewater Treatment Plant. As I watched him fishing from my perch way above, I thought about how much I enjoy fishing. I don’t get to do it very often, but I usually make my kids go fishing with me on Father’s Day or my Birthday. My favorite fishing spot is at my parent’s house. They have a small pond stocked with bluegill, bass and catfish, and I have many fond memories of helping my kids reel in a tiny bluegill that felt like a whopper to them.
I think this Lakewood A to Z Challenge is kind of like fishing for me as well. I like the challenge of trying to catch a cool picture for my posts and then fishing for information about it. The opportunity to do just that presented itself as I was finishing up my walk. I passed a bust emerging from a rock garden and snapped a pic. I then figured out that I could research this pic using the photo icon on my Google search bar. Within seconds I confirmed that this was an “outdoor meditative Buddha head sure to bring harmony and good fortune to the world – $64.99 on Amazon”. I hope it does bring me good fortune. Maybe if I go fishing at my parent’s this weekend I will be fortunate enough to catch a real whopper!
