Gridley

Perseverance

Perseverance is the continued effort to do or achieve something despite difficulties, failure, or opposition. As I started my walk down the tiny street of Gridley I saw a weed in the sidewalk that embodied this word. It reminded me of a pre-framed inspirational poster you can buy to hang in your office.

For me personally, perseverance was the perfect word to reflect on. I hit a few milestones this morning that have already taken “continued effort”. In addition to being officially done with the “G” streets, I reached 20 total pounds lost on this Lakewood A to Z Challenge. After having had three White Rajah IPA beers last night, it also took a little more perseverance than normal to wake up and get out of bed for my jog.

Gridley is a wonderful side street off Detroit Road Extension. The entire street sloped uphill towards the Metropark cliff, but the front yards also had tiny hills and terraces. I took a picture from the high point on the street looking back towards Detroit Road Extension. A few of the terraced front yards had flower beds or herb gardens.

It reminded me of a street I have walked up several times in San Francisco on the way to Coit Tower, and if you have ever walked around San Francisco you know that also takes a great deal of perseverance!
