Lakewood Heights

Back in the Saddle

My short break is over. Today it was time to dust off the old tandem and get back on the road.

The second half of my adventure started off with a bang. Today ended up being my longest total route yet measuring approximately 9 miles. Lakewood Heights Boulevard begins in the far southeast corner of Lakewood off Berea Road. It then spirals over the railroad tracks before heading west parallel to the highway. All of the street signs on the north side of the street were green indicating “Lakewood” and the signs on the south side of the street were blue for “Cleveland”, so this was another example of a street divided down the middle between the two cities.

When I arrived at the Warren Road crossing, I immediately noticed the amazing public art on the front of the Winterhurst Ice Arena. There was a mural “key” painted along a side wall identifying all of the local wildlife, mushrooms, flowers and trees painted in the image. It gave me a new appreciation for this vibrant work of art at one of the busiest “entrances” to our city.

I also passed Lakewood’s longest hopscotch along the way. After jumping through the course, I needed a cup of water. Fortunately I knew someone that lived nearby and was able to stop for a quick drink (thanks Marra).

After passing Alger the street became Lakewood homes on both sides. Lakewood Heights then abruptly ended at Olive, changing its name to North Marginal Drive. After checking Google Maps I confirmed there was another section of the road south of the highway off Riverside. I maneuvered my way over there and finished up my walk. It’s good to be back at it again.
