Homewood

Not to be Overlooked

Grace is still my favorite street so far, but Homewood is definitely in the Top 10. The magical experience began as soon as the street started. Homewood runs two blocks north from Lake, ending in a cul-de-sac. At the corner of Lake there was an entire children’s reading garden. The Little Free Library was a bench with books inside and there was another red bench to sit on. Animals were hiding in the bushes and peeking over the benches. I even looked through the offerings and saw my favorite board book, “Goodnight Moon”.

Behind the benches was a sign indicating I was entering Overlook Park. After a quick Google search, I found that Overlook Park is a neighborhood association that was founded in 2011. There are about 150 households that are members and includes homes from Belle to Nicholson east-west and Lake Avenue to the Lakefront north-south. According to their website, the primary purpose is to gather socially on a regular basis to encourage camaraderie and friendship while improving neighborhood cohesion and identity.

As I walked down the street I noticed how varied the homes were, with many continuing that same magical feeling. There was a cottage style home near the end of the street that was stunning. I walked by during the golden hour just as the morning sunrise was shining against the twin chimneys. I snapped a quick pic to capture the moment.

As I circled the cul-de-sac to head home I passed a second Little Free Library with a small red picnic table next to it. It was decorated with “Fox in Socks” murals. One final surprise to enjoy on a wonderful street.
