Hopkins

Iris

Hopkins began and ended with cool buildings, but the in-between was filled with irises. Observing the front lawns of Lakewood every day has allowed me to notice the evolution of the spring flowers. From the crocuses poking out with snow piles still around to the varied whites and yellows of the daffodils. Then came the tulips with a rainbow of colors. Today was the day of the iris.

The front yards on Hopkins were decorated with purple plumes. My brother’s birthday was today and I’ll forever associate irises with his birthday from this day forward.

Hopkins runs from Detroit to Madison on the eastern end of Lakewood. At the corner of Madison I spied a giant red bull standing on the back patio of Hola Tacos. Our family has eaten on the patio multiple times and always had a great meal and a great time. If you haven’t eaten there yet it is worth a visit.

On the other end of Hopkins near Detroit I passed another unique structure. It appeared to be an old firehouse. The sandstone brick near the door said that it was constructed in 1926. The building was in amazing shape and indicated that Firehouse Yoga was currently using the space. What a great repurposing of an almost 100-year-old building.
