Kenilworth

Safety First

At the corner of Kenilworth and Detroit there was a beautiful new fire station. Fire Station #2 was rebuilt in 2022. In front of the building they still have the original fire bell on display from when the building was first constructed in 1918. This is one of three fire stations located throughout the city, with Fire Station #1 located near Madison and Warren and Fire Station #3 on Clifton Boulevard near Cove.

I feel safe living in Lakewood. Our police and fire departments have a strong presence throughout the city. I have passed at least one police car patrolling the streets on most of my routes so far which is comforting to me. One time I had a contractor set off our fire alarms doing some work on a bathroom remodel and the firetrucks were in our front yard in minutes. It was a bit embarrassing for me, but I was glad to see how quickly they arrived.

Kenilworth is a short street that cuts through from Detroit to Sloane Avenue. The section closer to Detroit was mostly homes, but that changed over to smaller apartment buildings about halfway down the street. I took a pic of a cool looking three-story building that I was surprised to see tucked away down this side street.

If you are a beer drinker this would be a great place to live. Kenilworth Tavern is located at the corner of Detroit, and Immigrant Son Brewery is located across the street from where Kenilworth connects to Sloane. There aren’t many cities that can offer multiple Happy Hour spots within a 1/4-mile walk. Also, walking home after a drink would fit right in with the “Safety First” theme.
