Lakewood

Halfway Point

I started walking streets on February 5th, and now 105 days later I am 50% of the way done. I like to think of things as half full (my license plate is HLF FULL), so I prefer to say I still have 50% of the streets in Lakewood to discover.

Unbelievably the street I had to walk today was Lakewood. I removed the sign from the side of my tandem and snapped a selfie to mark this momentous occasion. Seeing the two signs next to each other made me realize my son Joe did a pretty good job of recreating the font when he designed the logo.

Getting to the beginning of Lakewood was a bit tricky. It starts across the railroad tracks near Cove Park, but the only way to get there is to ride up to Detroit, head west one block and then turn right onto the street.

There was a beautiful stone church (Emmanuel Myanmar Church) on the corner at Detroit. It looked like a castle, with the main building square-shaped with crenellations along the top (the part that looks like teeth – I looked it up). I’m sure that word will come up on Jeopardy someday.

When I finished up my walk at Madison, I looked across the street and saw Phoenix Coffee rising in the morning sun. It drew me in like a beacon so I stepped inside. I wanted to buy myself a treat to celebrate the halfway point, and the barista suggested a blueberry cookie muffin top combination. When I got home I shared it with my kids, and we all agreed it was delicious. What a sweet way to end my first half.
