Old MacDonald’s Farm
If Old MacDonald had a farm in Lakewood it would be on Leonard. Leonard is located near the Warren and Madison intersection just south of the Lakewood Fire Department. As soon as I turned off Warren onto Leonard, the very first house I passed had a line of tomato plants growing alongside their garage. I noticed other houses that had tomato and pepper plants either in the ground or in pots. With today being the first day of June, I hope we are past any frost warnings and can go full steam ahead with our gardens.
My favorite planting though was a front porch that had what appeared to be a small herb garden growing out of some well-worn work boots. I wonder if the leather adds something to the taste of the basil.
If Leonard is Old MacDonald’s Farm, on this farm he would definitely have a cat (with a meow-meow here and there). I caught two friendly cats staring at me intently as I did my walk. In addition to this orange and orange-white pair, I also spotted a black cat, black-white cat and a gray cat patrolling the streets. Maybe the cats keep all of the pests and rodents out of the gardens.
