Northland

W. 162nd Street

I am thankful for our varied and unique street names in Lakewood. As I was walking down the three sections of Northland this morning (Detroit to Madison – Hilliard to Delaware – Tiny Section South of I-90), I realized that it is really just W. 162nd Street. In fact, the name of the street changes to W. 162nd Street as soon as you cross Fischer into Cleveland. My Lakewood A to Z walk would be a lot less interesting if Lakewood used the same street names as Cleveland.

My walk was very early this morning, as I had to drop my daughter off at the airport around 4:45 a.m. As I was crossing the highway the sun was just rising in the east. While snapping a picture of the brilliant morning sky, I noticed there was a reflection in a puddle near the edge of the road. I think it was from the moon that was still in the western sky behind me. With not a single car on the road, it was a brief moment of solitude for me at a location that is typically filled with noise and activity.

My other picture is of a tree I found in one of the front yards. I loved the tie-on rock wall straps that were going up the side of the trunk. I am impressed that there are still parents that are actually “encouraging” their kids to climb trees.
