Owego (Avenue & Court)

Fruit Salad

As I finished up the 15th letter of the alphabet, I decided to share some statistics. I have posted 146 times so far, so that means each letter has averaged about 10 posts. Every letter so far has had at least one post, with “J” only having one and “C” leading the way with 22 posts. It looks like my last letter “W” will also have 22 posts so I will get to finish up in style.

When you search Owego on Google Maps it lists an Avenue and a Court for this short side street off Detroit just west of West Clifton. It changes names at the “elbow” of the street, and it was at this curve in the road where I encountered an amazing yard.

There was a pear tree right along the sidewalk, with dozens of fruit ripening on the branches. I also spotted a mature looking grapevine along a fence. Bunches of green grapes were forming on the vines. I imagined the homeowner going out into the backyard in a few weeks and harvesting enough fruit to make their own salad.

I also noticed a plaque from the National Wildlife Federation recognizing this yard as a Certified Wildlife Habitat. I think I have seen other similar signs, but this one seemed like it had been there for a while. It got me thinking – I wonder who enjoys the fruits in this yard more, the residents or the wildlife?
