Park Row

Perfect Picnic Place

On the corner of Park Row and Detroit I discovered Park Row Park. I have stopped here a time or two over the years, but until this morning I didn’t realize that it is a perfect spot for a picnic. There are not a lot of shady green spaces near Detroit with a large picnic table nestled next to a fun little playground.

Evidently the secret is out, as the trash can on Park Row was completely filled with boxes and cups from almost a dozen different Detroit restaurants (yes – I did some trash diving to investigate). I think I saw four different pizza boxes and multiple different coffee cups. Next time you need a spot to rest and enjoy your morning cup of joe, consider stopping here for a minute.

Towards the Sloane Avenue end of Park Row, I also enjoyed some public art. Several commercial buildings have murals painted on their exterior walls, but this was a garage door mural. Most of the garages in Lakewood are detached and in the rear of our homes, making the garage doors not easily visible from the sidewalk. This one was right next to the house and near the sidewalk. I appreciated its message of “Love” and “Peace”. It looks like Lily was the artist, so she deserves a special thanks for brightening up this street.
