Love Thy Neighbor
I had the opportunity to walk down the street just to the east of Lakewood Park this morning, appropriately called Parkside. As I was taking in the sights, I started reflecting on what it would be like to live so close to a large public space like Lakewood Park.
In my opinion, it would be mostly beneficial to live on Parkside. You could watch the 4th of July Fireworks from your backyard, enjoy Sunday evening concert music in the summer, and have easy access to the lake, a playground, a swimming pool and an exercise path. I’m sure it might stay noisy a bit later than ideal at times, and when events are held at the park the traffic and crowds could be annoying, but those things seem like a small price to pay for me.
I took a picture at the corner of Parkside and Edgewater where you can enter through the “sidedoor” of Lakewood Park. There was a brisk wind, and the clouds were moving quickly in the sky, making me appreciate the location even more.
I also want to give kudos to whomever is watering the amazing flower basket I found hanging from a telephone pole on Parkside. I assume the Overlook Park Neighborhood Association is responsible for obtaining the baskets, but it takes dedicated caretakers to have a blooming basket as vibrant as this one, particularly in the heat of July. It put a smile onto my face!
