The Heart of Birdtown
I got to walk back-to-back streets in the Birdtown neighborhood, having completed Plover yesterday. Even though Madison is a much busier street that runs through Birdtown, Quail felt like Birdtown’s Main Street.
I passed multiple churches along the way, snapping a picture of a beautiful mosaic in front of St. Nicholas Ukranian Orthodox Church. The mosaic was built using tiny centimeter sized squares and was truly a work of art. The North Coast Baptist Church was also an impressive structure, reminding me of a New England lighthouse.
Harrison Elementary School is also located on Quail. This completely rebuilt school feels like a gem in the neighborhood, with its inviting main entrance and expansive playground.
The last thing I found was a hidden cache of Barrio Food Trucks. It was next to a church that I think was going to be transformed into Birdtown Brewery by the owners of Barrio. I’m not sure where this project stands, but if it would ever get completed that would bring a whole new vibe to this already vibrant street.
