Mysterious Monoliths
Ramona has an interesting footprint. The street starts heading south from Clifton towards the railroad tracks before gently curving westward and connecting with Marlowe. While not truly a dead-end street, it had the look and feel of a quiet cul-de-sac.
At the start of the street there were four isolated brick monoliths. Two of them were located on each side of the intersection with Clifton. They had cool shaped sandstone tops that looked like they had served as a perch for more than a fair share of birds. The structures were probably left over from an entry wall that existed at some point, but with the wall removed they reminded me of a Lakewood Stonehenge.
As I completed my walk, I observed that many of the houses had flags flying out front. However, one house in particular had me feeling patriotic. It was displaying a TEAM USA flag in support of the Olympic athletes. With all of the political talk over the last week concerning the need for unity, I can’t think of a better thing to root for. It inspired me to change the letter board sign in front of my office to read, “Let’s Go Team USA”.
