Riverway

Ebbs and Flows

Given that the entire western border of Lakewood is a river (Rocky River), I am surprised that there are only two street names that start with “river”. Yesterday I walked Riverside and today I finished them up with Riverway.

As I was bike riding along Riverside on my way to Riverway, I peered over the cliff and into the Metroparks to glance at the river itself. To my surprise it was practically overflowing at the edges. Yesterday it was shallow with rocks showing throughout, and I imagined I could have walked across easily. Today after one afternoon of heavy rain, it was more suited for a kayak ride.

One of the houses on Riverway had the right idea when it came to capturing the rain. They had an attractive rain barrel with a diverter from their main downspout, allowing them to save all that rain for a later date (I couldn’t exactly say for a “rainy day”).

I did my route today after dinner, which is a bit unusual for me. However, I think more people were out walking and enjoying the post-rain evening. My favorite moment was when I stopped to chat with a young boy that was tossing a football in the front yard with his family. He was so excited for his football season to start. He made sure to tell me it was only 4 days away, or maybe 14 days away or maybe July 29th or was it August 29th. Whenever it is, I am sure he will be the most enthusiastic on the team!
