Birdtown’s Nest
I have been a frequent traveler to Birdtown lately, having completed Plover, Quail and Robin all in the last 10 days. However, each time I venture into this neighborhood I discover something new.
Today it was an impressive looking commercial building on the corner of Robin and Madison. The building itself is over 100 years old and was the former site of a BiRite Grocery Store. Now it is known as “The Nest” (great name). According to its website, “The Nest” is an energetic, approachable community space in the Birdtown neighborhood. It’s a place to meet with friends, collaborate on your next project, or pamper yourself. Phoenix Coffee is located out front on Madison, and I snapped a picture from the back of the building showing the current tenants.
The other thing I noticed as I walked down Robin was how industrious many of the residents were with their small front yard space. Several of the homes found room for gardens, with my favorite example being the multiple 5-gallon Home Depot buckets I observed growing plenty of vegetable plants in one front yard. This proves anyone can grow their own fresh produce if they put their mind to it.
