Block Parties
When I walked down Rockway this morning I saw several signs for their block party. The street that I live on used to have great block parties. I can remember years when we had a DJ to entertain the kids, a margarita machine for the adults, and a guest appearance by a Lakewood Fire Truck. However, it takes someone to champion the event to make it a success, and we haven’t had that for the last few years.
Rockway seems like a neighborhood that would be fun to live in. I’m not surprised they have plans for a block party complete with bounce houses and face painting. I even snapped a picture of a front porch skeleton that is ready for the big event. I hope they have good weather for the big day.
The other impressive element of the street is how the corner of Rockway and Detroit has been completely transformed by the removal of the building that was there. The property is owned by the Beck Center, and now if you stand on the corner you have a great view of the front entrance. You can even check out the brand-new scrolling marquee and the cool painted benches that are part of the pocket park. I know the Beck Center has additional plans to make the space a place where our community can gather. I can’t wait to see the finished product.
