Roosevelt

A Helping Hand

Roosevelt appears to be a cut-through street. When I took a picture of the street sign at Madison, there was a second sign on the other corner indicating that it connected with Cedarwood, Olivewood and Blossom Park. I guess if you are heading north off Madison, Roosevelt is a short-cut if you want to avoid Lakewood High School and don’t feel like dealing with the traffic on Bunts. The street itself was built with newer looking bricks, and in the few minutes that it took me to walk the street early this morning I heard the pleasant hum of three cars cutting down the street heading north.

The other anchor of this intersection is Lakewood Community Services Center. Their offices occupy several storefronts near the intersection of Roosevelt and Madison. According to their website, “Lakewood Community Services Center (LCSC) was founded in 1982 by 12 Lakewood churches with the purpose of providing food assistance to Lakewood residents in need”. The organization moved to its current location in 2009 allowing it to expand to offer other services. They include housing assistance, mental and behavioral health services, senior services and youth programming. Lakewood is lucky to have the dedicated staff and over 60 volunteers that help make their programs run.
