Kids at Play
I usually ride my bike to the destination streets if they are east of Lakewood Park, or south of Detroit Avenue. However, I broke my own unwritten rule the last two days, choosing to jog to Rosewood yesterday and Roy this morning. I think it might be because I am feeling healthier and more athletic. Either that or I have been inspired by all the track athletes I have been watching on the Olympics coverage.
When I did arrive at Roy after my early morning run, I was greeted by a cute little turtle cautioning me to take it SLOW. With only six houses on this short side street branching north from Edgewater, I was wondering if the sign was necessary. I was quick to discover that there are many kids at play on this cul-de-sac. I passed neighboring houses that both had basketball hoops in their driveway, and a crazy looking sprinkler was still out in one of the front yards from the weekend.
I imagine this street has its moments with kids playing in the street and rushing from yard to yard. I grew up in Fairview Park on a dead-end street off Mastick Road, and one of my favorite activities was playing kickball or football in the street with the neighborhood kids. Other than the occasional break we would have to take when a car passed by, it was the perfect sports field.
