Tornadoes Really Suck
My last post was almost a week ago. I finished up the “R” streets last Tuesday morning on my 51st Birthday. It will be a birthday I will never forget. I was at my office that afternoon when the terrible storms hit, with my office staff huddling in the small basement waiting it out. We emerged to no power, tree branches on the roof and yard, and the electrical box ripped off the side of my office building. We still do not have power, phone and internet at my office (fortunately we got it back at our house over the weekend).
To try to distract myself, I decided to walk my first “S” street the next day (Wednesday – August 7th). Scenic is a short street overlooking the Metroparks off Detroit Road Extension. I passed remnants of trees fully uprooted, including this picture I snapped next to the apartment building at the western end of Scenic. It was at this time that I noticed my Strava map wasn’t working. With cell phone service out throughout Lakewood, I would have to complete this street without the map. You will have to trust me that I completed the full route.
One house on the street took me away to Key West. It was a quaint cottage that reminded me of a house I might find in the Florida Keys. I pictured the residents sitting out on their screened-in porch enjoying a sunset over the Metroparks. With the week I have had, I might just use this as inspiration to be wasting away again in Margaritaville tonight.
