Wascana

Pizza Delivery

My very first meal in my first home ever (on Mars Avenue in Lakewood) was Angelo’s Pizza. Amy and I moved into the house in the summer of 2000 with our soon to be 2-year old daughter Rachel. I remember asking the Paydock Family that sold us the home what their favorite pizza place was in town, and without hesitation they answered Angelo’s. That was 24 years ago, and I bet we have ordered their pizza at least 200 times since then. When the owner of the restaurant sends you a Christmas Card, you know you are one of their biggest fans.

Angelo’s is on the corner of Wascana and Madison and was the starting point of my walk this morning. Ava Olic joined me for the a record third time. She walked her street with me (Cordova) back on March 18th, and also completed part of Madison with me on June 5th. She is the Communications and Design Coordinator with Lakewood Alive, and I always appreciate her company and thoughtful questions.

I also thought she deserved a chance to ride the tandem bicycle with me. The list of people that have joined me on the tandem is pretty short. My mom, my sister, my friend and very first donator to the GoFundMe page (Andy), and probably my most enthusiastic co-rider – Matt Clark from Lakewood Alive. Ava seemed a bit nervous, and even knocked off my A to Z signs twice getting on the bike, but once we were rolling she seemed to be OK. We recruited a resident to take a video (thank you Mary), and I included a still shot from the video on this post.

The best part of our walk came after we finished the tandem ride. We started chatting with Mary and her two friends and they asked why I was walking all the streets in Lakewood. I said it was to raise money for a great organization – Lakewood Alive. All three of them shouted in near unison “We Love Lakewood Alive”!
