West Clifton Road

Rounding Third & Heading Home

West Clifton Road is a short “No Outlet” street less than a mile from my house. It peels off of Lake at an unusual intersection that also has the street I will be walking tomorrow (West Forest Road). There are probably less than 10 houses on the street, but they are all beautiful, with wide lots that have large front yards (an unusual thing in Lakewood).

Even though summer break is over and the kids have gone back to school, one of the yards still had a set of bases laid out. It got me thinking how close I am to sliding into home plate. I have completed about 95% of my streets (only 12 to go after today) and travelled a total of 850 miles. That is further than the distance between Chicago and NYC. It would only take about 13 hours to drive that far, but it has taken me 7 months (I started February 5th) to travel that distance all within Lakewood.

When I reached the end of the street I approached the fence that separated this street from the much busier Clifton Boulevard. There was a small section missing, so I peered over the fence. I felt a bit like Wilson from the television show “Home Improvement”, the thoughtful neighbor always there to provide sage advice. Well my words of wisdom for today are to appreciate what you have, because you never know when it is going to end. At least I still have 12 more walks to go before Lakewood A to Z ends!
