Westlake

No Debate

My mouth was watering when I arrived at the corner of Westlake and Detroit. Cleveland Bagel Co. opened a Lakewood store at this location in late June, and I know our family has patronized the business several times since then. For me there is no debate – my favorite poppyseed bagel in the area is at Cleveland Bagel Co. Alas, I still has to walk the street and jog home, so a bagel was not in my plans for today.

As I was heading north down Westlake towards Clifton, I had an unusual sighting near the railroad tracks. There was an empty buildable lot for sale. With the larger Lakewood farms having been subdivided and developed in the early 1900s, there are not many lots like this throughout the city.

A bit further down the road I had another unique discovery. On the east side of the street I noticed some corn stalks poking up over a fenced in area next to a house. While I have seen quite a few small gardens throughout my walks, I don’t recall seeing any other corn fields.

I finished up my walk at the corner of Clifton, with the sun shining brilliantly on the Westlake street sign. My shadow was long from the bright morning sun, and I was ready to jog home and enjoy the rest of my day!
