Hungry For Knowledge
I rode my bike to Whippoorwill this morning, but after researching the bird it was named for I think I should have waited until night time to walk the street. A Whippoorwill is a nocturnal bird that has a haunting call that sounds like its name. Pretty spooky!
The street itself is tiny, running only from Lake to Clifton. There are two garages on the west side of the street for the houses located on Lake and Clifton. The old Taft Elementary School takes up the east side of the block. The repurposed building has the Lakewood early childhood pre-kindergarten program (Taft Center for Innovation) located inside. I noticed a quote carved into the facade on the south side of the building that said “Every addition to knowledge is an addition to human power,” which seemed appropriate for a center that is educating our future leaders.
I was thinking about that hunger for knowledge that young kids have when I noticed a “Hungry Hungry Hippo” in the nearby playground. I wanted to snap a selfie in the mouth of the hippo, but the park was closed during preschool hours. I would have to take a picture from the fence, and just imagine the shot I would have had if I had climbed into the hippo. I’m just not sure I would have been able to climb back out of the hippo afterwards.
