Shoutouts & Poop Art

Winton starts out like most other streets at its southern end. It connects with Madison and heads due north. What makes the street unique is that is doesn’t connect with Detroit at the other end. About 10 houses before you get to Detroit it starts curving at a 45 degree angle and runs into Cordova. There is a guardrail at this location, probably to protect the houses at this angle from unsuspecting drivers stuck looking into their phones while they drive. There are also two YIELD signs where it connects with Cordova, perhaps one of the only areas I have seen YIELD signs in the entire city.

As I was walking my tandem down this angled part of the street, a friend of mine (Verna Ann Kotansky) passed by in her car. She gave me a Lakewood A to Z shoutout and said she was hoping to run into me while I was completing her street. Given that there was only about 15 seconds her car would be on Winton on her way to work, I think it was incredible luck that we ran into each other this morning.

I also found some unique woodworking on Winton. There was a house near the middle of the street that had a QR Code etched into wood hanging from a tree in their front yard. I then noticed some cool wooden artwork and signs throughout the yard. My favorite was a sign that happily encouraged “No Trespooping”. Their neighbor also had the same sign. I do believe you catch more flies with honey than vinegar, so perhaps these smiling poop emojis are just the ticket to get dog owners to clean up after their furry friends.
